Arizona: Are You Ready if a Wildfire Breaks Out?

With peak wildfire season fast approaching, the Arizona Fire District Association (AFDA), the Arizona Fire Chief’s Association (AFCA) and PCI are joining forces to remind Arizonians to prepare both their finances and property for wildfire season. Simple steps by homeowners and renters can prevent property damage and prepare their finances to improve the recovery process.

Arizona’s history of deadly and destructive wildfires mean residents should be ready and set to go if a fire breaks out. Now is the time to prepare financially and physically and this partnership of fire districts, fire officials and insurers will help Arizona residents take action that will make a difference during wildfire season. Tools, tips and information will be provided to help residents to clear debris, trim trees, make a family evacuation plan, update insurance, report home improvements to insurer or agent, and create a home inventory. Additionally, residents with mountain vacation homes need to be mindful to clear debris and trees around their second homes. Arizona residents should also be aware that many fire districts have grants available to make debris clearance more affordable and convenient.

Arizona is known for its desert and high heat, but many mountain communities face high fire danger. Among Arizona’s high risk wildfire communities are: Alpine, Bisbee, Crown King, Greer, Herber-Overgaard, Flagstaff, Jacob Lake, Oracle, Patagonia, Payson, Pinetop-Lakeside, Portal, Prescott/Prescott Valley, Show Low, Sierra Vista, Springerville, Summerhaven.
