PCI Offers Recovery Information For Victims of Winter Storm

ATLANTA- The Property Casualty Insurers Association of America (PCI) is offering recovery information for those involved in auto accidents or may have experienced any damage to their homes or businesses during this week’s winter storm in the southeast.

“While it will take a while to find out the exact number of people impacted by this winter storm, there were countless automobile accidents as many attempted to drive home on snow covered and icy roads, said PCI’s Regional Counsel Oyango Snell. “Insurance agents are in the field now, working with victims who were impacted by this storm. There are a number of things that those affected can do to help expedite the claims process.”

“It’s also important to check your auto insurance policy: Collision coverage on an auto policy covers crashes in hazardous driving conditions. Standard homeowners policies generally provide coverage for damage caused by wind, snow, severe cold, and freezing rain.”

If you’ve experienced a loss from these storms:

Immediately contact your insurance agent or company representative.

Inspect property and cars for damage.

Inventory losses and photograph damage, and save related receipts to assist with claims handling.

Secure property from further damage or theft.

Check the background and legitimacy of repair contractors. Ask your insurance company for assistance in locating a reputable contractor.

Keep detailed records of business activity and extra expenses during the interruption period, and prepare records to show the income from the business, both before and after the loss.

For further information, such as storm-related emergency claims numbers and answers to frequently asked questions, please visit PCI’s Winter Storm Headquarters.
