Wildfire Threat Continues to Impact Western States

Wildfires continue to burn in Washington destroying hundreds of homes and forcing evacuations. The largest of five wildfires currently active, Carlton Complex, is breaking records as the state’s largest wildfire burning more than 250,000 acres so far, and still remains active. The extreme hot weather and windy conditions pushed the fire into the town of Pateros resulting in a large number of evacuations. So far more than 300 homes were destroyed and massive power outages impacting hundreds of businesses.

In California nearly 2,000 firefighters are working to contain the Sand Fire just east of Sacramento. Close to 1,200 homes were evacuated, and while several are allowed back in their homes, California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection reports that 13 homes were destroyed.

Another wildfire near Yosemite National Park has burned more than 2,000 acres forcing evacuations.

Unfortunately, these dry conditions are predicted to continue according to the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC). NIFC predicts above normal fire potential to continue over most of California, Nevada, Washington and Idaho. With the threat of severe weather and dry condition, fires attributed to lightning continue be a real threat.

PCI is urging those who live in these areas to prepare both financially and physically for wildfires.

For those directly impacted by the wildfires, PCI has an After the Wildfire-Home Insurance Recovery Guide to help you with the claims process.
