Wildfire Threat Continues Through Summer Months
The combination of extreme heat and high winds is making this summer rough for firefighters and homeowners across several western states. The
National Interagency Fire Center
predicts the end of June and July to be above normal fire potential to continue over most of California, Nevada and Oregon. With the threat of severe weather and dry condition, fires attributed to lightning could be a real threat.
PCI is participating in the
National Weather Service’s Lightning Safety Awareness Week
, June22-28 in hopes of encouraging consumers to take personal precautions and be aware of the fire risks associated with lightning strikes. Now is the time to prepare both financially and physically for wildfires.
According to the
National Fire Protection Association
, from 2007-2011 fire departments responded to an average of 22,600 fires attributed to lightning per year. The same data shows that fires associated with lightning strikes are more common during the summer months.
